Introduction
Recognizing the critical role of space-based information in global resilience efforts, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), in cooperation with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, will organize International Conference on "Leveraging Space Technology for EW4All, Climate Actions and Disaster Risk Assessment" from 27–31 Oct 2026 in Islamabad, Pakistan. The events aim to advance the implementation of global frameworks, including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Paris Climate Agreement, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a specific focus on SDG 13 (Climate Action).
The Conference will be hosted by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on behalf of the Government of Pakistan and co-organized by UN-SPIDER, Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) and the Inter-Islamic Network on Space Sciences and Technology (ISNET).
The week-long International Conference will serve as a strategic forum to share knowledge, showcase case studies, and foster international collaboration on effective use of space technologies and geospatial information in support of early warning systems, climate action, disaster risk reduction and sustainable development, with a particular focus on developing countries.
Objectives
Conference Objectives
The conference will provide a platform to:
- Improve Early Warning Systems (EWS) by harnessing space technology applications.
- Assess and monitor progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 13, using space-based information.
- Support the national-level realization of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) 2015–2030.
- Explore and promote the use of space technology for Climate Action in key sectors such as water, agriculture, and forestry.
- Enhance collaboration and coordination among stakeholders to achieve the goals of the SFDRR, SDGs, and the Paris Agreement.
Programme
The Conference programme will consist of:
- Eight technical sessions (half-day each);
- Panel discussions addressing thematic and policy-oriented issues;
- Keynote presentations given by invited speakers;
- Informational sessions where speakers present sequentially on a specific topic, followed by Q&A with the audience;
- A half-day technical visit to relevant national institutions in Pakistan.

Working Language
The working language of both the conference and the training will be English. All participants are required to have good English language comprehension skills.
Expected Participants
The Conference is anticipated to bring together approximately 200 participants in person, including technical experts, educators, diplomats, policy- and decision-makers, United Nations agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, research institutions, and the broader space industry.
Life and Health Insurance
Health insurance for each participant is necessary and is the sole responsibility of the participant, their institution, or their government. The United Nations and the organizing partners will not assume any responsibility for life and health insurance, nor for expenses related to medical treatment or accidents.
