Introduction

Recognizing the critical role of space-based information in global resilience efforts, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), in cooperation with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, will organize International Conference on “Leveraging Space Technology for EW4All, Climate Actions and Disaster Risk Assessment" from 11-15 May 2026 in Islamabad, Pakistan. The events aim to advance the implementation of global frameworks, including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Paris Climate Agreement, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a specific focus on SDG 13 (Climate Action).

The Conference will be hosted by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on behalf of the Government of Pakistan and co-organized by UN-SPIDER, Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) and the Inter-Islamic Network on Space Sciences and Technology (ISNET)

The week-long International Conference will serve as a strategic forum to share knowledge, showcase case studies, and foster international collaboration on effective use of space technologies and geospatial information in support of early warning systems, climate action, disaster risk reduction and sustainable development, with a particular focus on developing countries.

Working Language

The working language of both the conference and the training will be English. All participants are required to have good English language comprehension skills.

Expected Participants

The Conference is anticipated to bring together approximately 200 participants in person. Participants will include technical experts from various fields related to Satellite Remote Sensing, GIS, and Space-Based Disaster Management, educators, members of the diplomatic community, policy- and decision-makers from international, regional, national and local institutions, United Nations agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, research and development institutions, and also from the broader space industry.

Life and Health Insurance

Health insurance for each participant is necessary and is the sole responsibility of the participant, their institution, or their government. The United Nations and the organizing partners will not assume any responsibility for life and health insurance, nor for expenses related to medical treatment or accidents.
