Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) is committed to the peaceful uses of space & space technologies. It has been pursuing Satellite Remote Sensing (SRS) & Geographic Information System (GIS) application programs for the past 30 years. It has established the requisite facilities and developed necessary expertise. SUPARCO acquires and archives SRS data from French SPOT series of satellites. The satellite data and related services are provided to different users with in and outside the country.

SUPARCO provides technical assistance for collaborative research/commercial projects and conducts technical training in the related fields of SRS & GIS for users / organisations in public and private sectors. Under GIS applications programme, SUPARCO has developed databases pertaining to various thematic applications for a large number of customers. It has the privilege of providing technical training to more than 1000 professionals in RS & GIS applications. It has been pursuing a multidisciplinary Satellite Remote Sensing and GIS application programme for resource and environmental surveying/monitoring and management for socio-economic development of the country. In the capacity of national remote sensing agency, its major goals are to:

Exploit the potentials of space technologies for natural resource surveying and environmental monitoring
Execute application projects of national significance
Transfer technology to users in public and private sectors
Impart Remote Sensing and GIS training to potential users

Remote Sensing along with its allied technologies has become an industry in itself. SUPARCO is the pioneer in introducing these technologies in Pakistan using Satellite Remote Sensing and GIS techniques. Objectives	Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), owing to its advantage of cloud / haze penetration, day, night and all weather coverage, carries a great potential to be used in a variety of application areas. SAR uses different wavebands within microwave part of the electromagnetic spectrum, to identify and delineate various earth features/objects. Thus, this training course aims to provide understanding in radar remote sensing, impart knowledge and hands-on experience in SAR specific open source software for processing SAR imagery, acquaint participants with techniques of extracting information from SAR imagery products, familiarize participants with techniques of integrating SAR and optical data and share information about various applications of SAR imagery.

Objectives	Remote Sensing offers wide applications including Lithological discrimination, structural mapping, land form analysis, hydrogeology, environmental geosciences and mineral prospection. The synoptic coverage and multispectral information provided by the remotely sensed data have proved to be advantageous over conventional methods for geological mapping. It helps in visualizing the terrain as a whole for understanding the spatial relationship between different features. The aim of this training course is to impart knowledge and skills in utilization of Remote Sensing data for developing Geological applications. Geological maps composition and sharing of expertise in carrying out mineral prospection, ground water studies, and Geohazard monitoring projects will be covered along with necessary hands-on practical/demonstration.

Objectives	The course aims at providing basic understanding of Regional Climate Model (ReqCM) & Dispersion Modeling such as CHARM software. The course progresses from introducing climate change through numerical modeling, installing and running of model to analyze the results. The course will navigate through remote sensing and GIS software packages for post processing of results obtained.
