Training Course on Environmental Monitoring & Impact Assessment using Satellite Remote Sensing & Ground-based Techniques
04 - 08 April, 2011; SRDC-Lahore, Pakistan

SUPARCO organized a short training course on “Environmental Monitoring & Impact Assessment using Satellite Remote Sensing & Ground-based Techniques” from 04 - 08 April, 2011 at Satellite Research and Development Centre (SRDC), Lahore. The course was organized by the Space Application & Research (SAR) Wing, SUPARCO in collaboration with Inter Islamic Network on Space Sciences & Technology (ISNET). 37 participants including 03 foreign participants form National Centre for Research, Sudan and Ministry of Science & Technology, Directorate of Space Technology & Communication, Iraq participated in the training course. Besides SUPARCO speakers, Dr. A. R. Saleemi, Chairman (Department of Chemical Engineering), UET, Lahore, Dr. M. Ashraf Bodla, Director (Social and Environment) PMO Punjab and Dr. Sajid, Department of Geography, University of the Punjab were also invited as the resource persons.

The training program was aimed at providing understanding of environmental issues, climate change processes and enhance capabilities of participants to make use of satellite data in environmental monitoring.
 

 

Training course on Remote Sensing & GIS Applications in Marine Study
12 - 23 July, 2010; Karachi, Pakistan

SUPARCO in collaboration with FAO organized a 02-week training course on Remote Sensing & GIS Applications in Marine Study from 12 – 23 July 2010 at Karachi. 12 officials from Marine Fisheries Department (MFD) participated in the course.

The training program organized specifically for the capacity building of MFD officials. Therefore the course was tailored according to their requirements. The training course included interactive lectures, hands-on exercises and question answer session. The training course aimed at to provide an overview and to create better understanding of satellite remote sensing techniques and GIS for marine studies.

 

Training course on Remote Sensing & GIS Applications in Environmental Monitoring
09 February – 26 March, 2010; Islamabad, Pakistan

SUPARCO in collaboration with Ministry of Environment (MoE) and UNDP organized a 07 week training course on "Remote Sensing & GIS Applications in Environmental Monitoring" from 09 Feb – 26 Mar 2010 at Islamabad. 15 officials from MoE and allied organizations participated in the course.

The training program was organized specifically for the capacity building of organizations working under MoE. Therefore the course was tailored according to their requirements. The participants were able to process satellite images during hands-on exercises. The course provided an opportunity to share experiences of the participants related to their specific sphere of work and applications of RS & GIS for productive and systematic approach in environmental monitoring.

 

Training course on Remote Sensing & GIS Applications in Natural Resource Management
17 - 20 November, 2009; Islamabad, Pakistan

.

SUPARCO organized a 4-day short training course on Remote Sensing & GIS Applications in Natural Resource Management from 17-20 Nov 2009 at SGS Islamabad, Pakistan. Participants from various national & international R&D organizations participated in the course. Dr. Tarabzouni Mohamad, Senior project manager, Space Research Institute, King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology also attended the course as a resource person. Objectives of training course included enhancement of knowledge and skills of the participants through lectures and hands on practice to have a clear understanding & subsequent use of RS & GIS technology for management of natural resources including water, forest and agriculture.

 

Training course on Satellite Remote Sensing Using Coarse Resolution Data
10 - 14 November, 2008; Karachi, Pakistan

.

Keeping in view the potential applications of coarse resolution satellite data in diversified applications, SUPARCO organized a short training course on Satellite Remote Sensing Using Coarse Resolution Data from 10-14 November 2008 at SUPARCO HQs, Karachi. 27 participants from various national scientific disciplines including R&D organizations, private sectors and universities attended this training course. The training course aimed at providing concepts and methodologies in operational use of coarse resolution data with particular reference to vegetation cover, potential fishing zones, snowmelt runoff, drought, desertification, land surface temperature as well as environmental monitoring. The training also highlighted the use of Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) data for hydrology and their related applications in flood, and water resource management.
